The green development problems of steel industry, nonferrous metal industry, petrochemical industry, chemical industry, construction material industry, papermaking industry, and related industrial general machines and some high energy consumption equipment have been researched. The connotations and relationships among green development, recycling development and low-carbon development are discussed. And the present status, challenges and important influences on the green development of the six major process industries and industrial equipment were analyzed. Meanwhile, the break points (peak values) of total energy consumption and total pollutant emissions of the six major process manufacturing industries are analyzed. Then, strategy solutions and targets of green development engineering for industry are put forward. However, it should be emphasized that process manufacturing industry should be integrated into the circular economy based on function expansion. Finally, some leading engineering projects and corresponding demonstration projects and a series of key technologies are put forward.

In 2015, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched a major advisory project: Manufacturing Power Strategy II. This project conducted a systematic and in-depth analysis of the major obstacles affecting China’s position as a manufacturing power, presented relevant suggestions, and formed a research report. Based on a preliminary study of this project, this paper examines and discusses related issues involving manufacturing power indexes, China Manufacturing 2025 strategy, typical cases, and experts' opinions, by means of data mining, case studies, and expert interviews. The results indicate the main factors that obstruct the construction of China's manufacturing power, which include: the growth pattern of manufacturing in China; the unbalanced implementation of the five projects within China Manufacturing 2025 strategy; the similar focuses of different local governments on industrial development; and, finally, the risk of neglecting traditional industries. To solve these issues, these authors suggest promoting high-quality manufacturing and new technological transformation in order to accelerate the transformation of the economic growth pattern and the upgrading of traditional industries. They also suggest coordinating the implementation of the five projects with local industry policies in order to develop China’s manufacturing power strategy more efficiently.

With the rapid growth in vehicle production, sales, and ownership, vehicle energy and key mineral resources for vehicle manufacture have become an important issue in China. This study predicts future vehicle ownership and analyzes the current situation in terms of utilization, technical development level, and development trend of vehicle energy and key mineral resources in China, by employing the Chinese vehicle ownership prediction model developed by the China Automotive Energy Research Center of Tsinghua University. The results indicate that China's vehicle ownership will continue to grow and the contradiction between the supply and demand of vehicle energy will be further highlighted. The mineral resource reserves, product performance, and technological level of vehicle materials in China need to be improved. Relevant policies are suggested to cope with the aforementioned challenges.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the unique cultural treasures of Chinese; it represents a significant feature and prominent advantage of the healthcare cause in China. Data in this paper were from World Health Organization, Chinese Bureau of Statistics, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and PubMed. In recent years, TCM has established a solid foundation in Europe, which made great strides in legislation, education, research, and international exchange, and has enjoyed a vast development space in the continent. Now, TCM is embracing unprecedented development opportunities in Europe. At the same time, the stiff international competition poses a grave threat to China’s TCM industry. With multiple cultural, legal, and institutional challenges, as well as talent shortages in the way, TCM is now facing many difficulties in Europe. To fully prepare and enact active and vigorous steps to seize opportunities, we should have a clear picture about the serious challenges hampering TCM development in Europe. The TCM development at overseas markets has shifted from a spontaneous trade activity into a national strategy spearheaded by the government and participated in by multiple stakeholders. We should make a systematic, comprehensive, and sustainable push in fields such as TCM therapy, healthcare, education, research, culture, and industry development. The ultimate goal is to bring TCMs to the global market and allow them to play a role in safeguarding public health along with modern medicines.

Constraints for Sustainable Land Use in China and Countermeasures
Li Boheng
Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 9, Pages 7-12
Large population, limited land resources and environmental pollution are the main constraints for sustainable land use in China. It is an ambitious goal of the new millennium to monitor land use dynamically with remote sensing technology, enhance management of primary agricultural land, build gardening and ecologically sound agricultural conditions, and to achieve dynamic balance of total agricultural land areas in China.
